Chairman's Message

On the gravy train - Chairman Lee gets some carbohydrates to help him with the arduous task of running Southend Canoe Club

Welcome All,

The new season 2012 for the canoe club is now upon us, as you are aware it's an Olympic year, and I hope it will be for the canoe club.

Thank you all for being patient whilst the committee, (especially Ray) sort out the pool sessions which are now in full swing, running from January till the end of March. First week back in the pool saw a great number so keep it up. You can ask one of our coaches to help you with your paddling techniques or practice your rolling in the warm environment.

It's fantastic to see a lot of new faces in the club. It's how we all started, making new friends with adventure in mind so don't be shy, talk to one of our members about the trips we provide.

Already we have seen some excellent trips away. December saw the River Dart and January the Lake district. Thank you to all of those who organised these and other trips. If you feel you would like to write about a trip or submit photos we would be happy to publish them on the website but sorry, no prizes.

If you would like to run a trip or suggest a trip please approach one of the committee members and we will see if we can fulfil your desire.

Please remember those funny photos for the caption competition on the web site! Thank you to Andrew for maintaining the site whilst we all browse the site.

Coming up we have a North of England paddle in March and an Ilfracombe trip in June, a more family orientated trip but still fun in the sand.

Please don't forget the clubs AGM. For those of you who have never been to one before it's not like any other AGM you have ever been to, as this is where Nafta awards are given out with family games and BBQ.

The date for the annual Battlesbridge race is July 22nd with a slight twist this year, so book your entrance place soon.

Watch out for the list of evening paddles around south Essex it's usually a rush home from work, but well worth the effort.

Whilst at the pool sessions its well worth an ask to see if anyone is out for the weekend paddling locally on the Chelmer for which the club has its own licence.

Thank you to the committee for all their hard work behind the scenes and those who help the club on a weekly basis at the pool taking monies (Mandy).

Please enjoy the spring time and join in the trips locally or further a field.

Happy Paddling,

Lee Emmett
Southend Canoe Club Chairperson
